Pre-Birth Acupuncture
Designed to support pregnant moms in preparing for a healthy, natural labor.

Starting at 32-33 weeks, these weekly sessions continue for six weeks to help alleviate discomfort, reduce anxiety, and promote overall wellness for both mother and baby.
Women experience a wide range of emotions as they approach the labor and delivery of their babies, especially if it is a first pregnancy. With the overwhelming access to information, unsolicited advice, and the need for others to tell stories of things that went badly, there is a tendency to experience a lot of fear and anxiety in the last couple of months of pregnancy. We think of this time as precious. It is the time when the focus should be turning more inward, more directed at nesting, and connecting with the partner in preparation for the addition to their family. That said, many things are influencing what should be personal decisions, and it is our position that what women need most is support and validation, not confusion and advice.
In addition to acupuncture to address any symptoms she is experiencing, this 6 week series incorporates ideas on labor management that will add to what is taught in a childbirth class.
Included strategies:
-
Support emotional issues that arise around labor management;
-
Practical methods to manage contractions in labor;
-
Breathing techniques that allow for more productive contractions;
-
An understanding of the relationship between the nervous system, stress/anxiety, and labor;
-
Acupressure points for labor support, and ways that the birth partner can participate in the labor support process.
We strongly encourage women to take good Childbirth and Lactation classes prior to the birth. These are extremely helpful and also give resources for after birth should you need them. We also strongly support the option of a VBAC should the pregnant woman's medical providers confirm she is a good candidate for that option.
